Cinnamon Apple Scones

I think fall has finally arrived in the Midwest and I couldn't be happier.  I love fall weather and food.  Sweaters, scarves, pumpkin, cinnamon and apples, I wait all year for this season.  The leaves are beginning to fall and the air is crisp and it's just cool enough to nip at the nose.  Let's ring in the season with some lovely apple scones and will fill your house with beautiful aromas.

 Scones

2 cups all-purpose flour
½ cup white sugar
2 teaspoons baking powder
½ teaspoon baking soda
½ teaspoon salt
2 teaspoons cinnamon
¼ cup butter, chilled
½ cup milk
1 apple

Topping

2 tablespoons milk
2 tablespoons white sugar
1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon

Directions:

1. Pre heat oven to 425 degrees and grease a cookie sheet.  Whisk flour, sugar, baking powder, cinnamon, soda, and salt into a large bowl. Cut in butter until crumbly. Add shredded apple and milk. Stir to form a soft dough.

2.  Turn dough out onto a lightly floured surface. Knead gently 8 to 10 times. Pat into a 10 inch diameter circle and cut into sixths. Place on greased baking sheet. Brush tops with milk, and sprinkle with sugar and cinnamon.

3.  Bake at 425 degrees for 15 minutes, or until browned and risen. Serve warm with butter.
